She use positive reinforcement rather than relying; i.e. no choke chains. What has made Shelby so successful is her ability to communicate not only whit dogs but also whit their owners ,teaching them to see things from a dog’s point of view.
Shelby is also a top obedience and agility competition handler . Among receiving other awards, Shelby’s own Smooth Collie , Lotte , was for many years the top ranked obedience Collie in the nation and is celebrated in Collie history books for the major accomplishments.
Shelby’s book The New Art of Dog Training: Balancing Love and Discipline was featured on Oprah and won the ” Best Training and Behavior Book of 2000” awarded by the Dog Writer’s Association of America.
